Shinken!! is the online web browser game by DMM. You take the role of swordsmith to take care of girls - holders of special swords - the only weapon against monsters that possess inanimate objects.
In other words - it’s a Touken Ranbu with sword girls. And with more complex battle system. And this guide helps you winning the battles.
I don’t speak Japanese, terms used here might be unrelated to correct unofficial names and my English isn’t the best, but the guide is probably useful.
And I like to write about not-so-important things, but it’s better to you to know more about features of the game.

Here we go! Or not - let’s think firstly about why you have to do battles:
  • it’s the main part of the game,
  • it’s the best way to level up your girls,
  • you can get more items to cutting tests and ore to forge new swords,
  • there is the little chance to get new girls.
Okay, so we’ll start from the main screen:

image

Click on second purple tab on bottom of game screen. It will take you to next screen.
Other tabs are residential area (main), green are smithing and polishing/repair, red ones are battle group, training, sacrificing/fusing/offering and catalog (now unlocked) and last purple ones are quests and premium shop.
The red label near the gate also link you to the next screen.

image

(Don’t worry about “next” labels. It used to be a kind of bug)
On this screen are worlds to select. Arrow on right side of screen allows to scrolling the screen, even if it’s nothing there. (The two of worlds with violet labels are available only during May event)
Click on one of them.

image

Here is second world’s details - the forest no one turns back. There are 4 maps - 3 normal and 1 challenge. A figure below the forest icon is how the level map looks like.
Click on one of maps. You can cancel every action in windows by clicking on “X“ button located on right side of them.

image

After clicking on the one of maps, this window will appear. On top there are your team details - number on each girl picture are battle spirit points, offense, defense, quickness, level and health points. Orange squares are represent space she need on battle field. The girl with crown is leader - she will get more exp than others.
Below, there are map details - map name and obtained achievements (stars). There are number of opponents waves, maximum limit of heat, how many enemies you can pass on (in this map, if you pass on 3 of them, you’re lost), and required resources. Red letters are informing you that 30 heat points (fire thing) will be consumed.
Click on red button to start battle.

image

Loading screen. This will take a long time...

image

First wave and first enemies! On top label are enemy name (Itsumade or Flying Cuckoo Clock), count of them in the wave (there will be 30 of them), below is how it looks like, and bottom label are ofense, defense and quickness stats (that one is fast).
The red label... maybe it is a space they take? Whatever, lets go on.

image

Ok, this is a first thing you would see (or second one). Enemies appears on right side of screen (from there where is gray-red circle), and their target is left side of map. In this screen shot, there are 2 areas connected with path. There are also numbered - the little square in the top right corner tells you that.
Click on right area to zoom in.

image

I put some descriptions on screen shot, ‘cause I think it will be better than depicting all gui (my skills are still better than paint) The group of red tabs on right bottom corner is: zoom out, 1x speed/2x speed, off/on sound and pause/run away from battle.
Firstly, I have to explain about heat (battle spirit points on screen shot) - the same you use to perform most of the tasks. It’s like a currence on battle, used like mana/rage/action points in other RPGs. It regenerates with every second of battle and you can get extra points by clicking on gray-red circle on the beginning of each wave (like on previous screen shot). You can spend heat on summoning girls on battlefield and on cheering them up.

image

As you can see, each area is divided by squares - mostly 3x4 - and each girl uses some space - it demends on sword type she holds. The tantous (cheapest) use 1x1 and the enormous Oodachis - 3x2. How many space they take - you can find out by little picture made of orange squares on girl’s card in deck below the screen.
Okay, so put first girl into the battle! You can do it by clicking on her card and click on the place not used by other girls. The girl will deal damages without your help, but she doesn’t move by her own.
Put other girls to fill the space on area. You can also send girls into other part of area - click on a girl and click on an unoccupied space - she’ll go into place where you clicked. You can send them into other area, but it will take some time.

image

“Battle Cry” feature

You can cheer up your girls by clicking two times: one on her card and second on the red bubble, but only if she’s fighting. Her stats will increase slightly and it will recover her health. First cheering consumes the same amount of heat as summoning her and every next cheering uses 2x heat than prior one.

image

It’s happen to lost battle (I don’t wish you this) by let passing through area more enemies as you can (do you see 「人口 ... 0」?) In this case, the screen will show up.
I don’t know what this text mean, but it informs you that you’ll lose items if you quit. But there is the special “Inviting cat“ (Maneki neko) which allows you to raise the limit up for enemies and to continue the gameplay. You can also find out how many cats you have.
Then, your decision is to continue (red button) or to give up (gray one).

image

After win, the screen will appear. There is described how much exp you get, your achievements (no damage, time achievement and if the skill was used), list of obtained items, and how much exp each girl get too. And on the right side is the girl which done the great work with killing the enemies.
Now you can go to mansion or to stage selection screen - it’s your decision.

If you want to know more...

Here is the section for some features which are not necessary to win your first battle. Some of the you see on the latter part of game

Rest

You can send your girls back from battle field by clicking two times: on her card and blue text bubble. The girl will be resting and recover her health. The next summoning into battle is free. It’s useful if you don’t want to let her die by conquer with very hard boss or exchange her with other girl.

Skills

Each girl can learn unique skill by attempting and passing 3rd cutting test (it’s also possible by fusing with girl with skill but shhhh). After some time you’ll see “OK” text bubble above your girl on batlle field (not her card). Click two times on her (after first click red spiky bubble will appear) and she’ll use her skill.

image

Btw, Aso’s skill is “Gathering the fireflies“ and she heal allies.
There are many skills - dealing small/large damage to one/all enemies, blocking enemies hits (in two ways! - by avoid their attacks or distract them), healing allies, freeze enemies etc. If it is uses against one enemy, the most difficult one will be selected (or randomly).

Polishing state

The more rusted the sword is (its card), the less damage the girl can deal. If her “polishing status” is 0, she’ll still fight, but she will be able to deal only 0s. You can polish her beyond the battle in polishing room, but it costs the time and resources.

Logistical support

Maybe you noticed that on some screenshots some girls have yellow orange strap on middle on their cards. It’s a sign she serves on logistical support.

image

You can’t put these girls onto battlefield, but you can use her skill on the battle. Skill using costs the same amount of heat like summoning her. It’s really useful when you have many girls and lack of space to deploy them and when you care more about her rare skills and less about her fighting skills.
Of course you can put girls into logistical support only if they have unblocked skills and if their skills are allowed to do that (for example - Sayo’s attack skill (megane girl with braids, she’s on the screenshot) is based on her current HP (damages she deals are 2x lost HP) so she would deal only 0s). You can check this on the character list below the game and look at your girl entry to seek (※後方支援では効果がありません - no skill in logistical support) text.
There is the “Catalog“ feature you can check from the main screen, but it’s the new thing...

Demon Swords

In some stages you’ll head with a demon sword. It’ a sword girl with red-white-black design and sullen appearance (some of them are really outstanding!!). They are also very strong - they have 4k~40k HP or even more. If you don’t feel to to conquer with the enemy - it’s okay, just let her pass through.
If you defeat her, you will get her and she will be your sword. She can’t perform estate duties, she can betray you during battle and she offers worse stats during fusing. They have also different skills than good ones (I don’t know more than that...)
It’s possible to purify her to made her normal sword (it’s the second button in smithing room). You need only 1000 heat, but 2000 heat is safe value if you don’t want to fail and try purifying her again.

Some message boxes

image

This one sometimes appears after you click “Start battle!“ button. It means something like
Attention!!
Girls which are being polished or are performing tasks can’t participate in the battle, and then you have to process without them.
Knowing that, are you want to start mission?
Yes/No

image

This one will display after clicking on “Pause“ button.
You are in the battle, do you want to run away?
Items you obtained will be lost if you decide on doing this.
Yes/No

Thank you for reading! I know it isn’t the best guide, I was making and giving up with this post many times, but there is so few stuff about this game in English, so I decided to do something with that.
To know more, you can read Game Glossary and How To Play from Shinken game site (poorly) translated by me and useful links masterpost I made on Wikia.
If you find some errors, mistakes, typos or I didn’t explain well any part of the guide, please tell me!
